Identify the governing documents
Owner specifications, purchase orders, drawings, ITPs, jurisdictional rules and referenced codes.
Code requirements are never one-size-fits-all. Each assignment starts with the owner’s specifications, contract documents, applicable jurisdiction and the approved inspection and test plan.

Before mobilization, the project team identifies governing documents, exact editions, inspection hold points, personnel qualifications, acceptance criteria and required deliverables.
Owner specifications, purchase orders, drawings, ITPs, jurisdictional rules and referenced codes.
Check the required certifications, experience, training, employer approvals and independence obligations.
Track approved editions, addenda, superseded revisions, document ownership and distribution rights.
Capture the observation, governing requirement, evidence, disposition and approval trail.
Examples include ASME piping and pressure-equipment codes, AWS structural welding codes, API pipeline and equipment standards, AMPP coating practices, and MSHA training requirements. Applicability must be established for each project. Licensed full-text standards and confidential owner documents will be available only to authorized users after permissions are verified.
Official reference organizations: ASME · AWS · API · AMPP · MSHA
